The Ocean Financial Centre in Singapore
A project I always come back to.
Some projects never leave you.
I'm back in Singapore, and this tower is one of them.
Back in 2012, I interned with Keppel (Real Estate Division)'s construction management team for the Ocean Financial Centre (OFC). As an intern, I supported the team and helped develop ideas for what a Class A+ office building of the future could be.
This tower in Singapore's CBD remains special to me for several reasons:
➡️ Personal connections: The team was highly competent and incredibly welcoming. I'm still friends with some of them, and we meet every time I'm back in Singapore.
➡️ Complexity: Managing a partial demolition, construction above and below ground, all integrated within the busy CBD and MRT rail system was absolutely impressive to witness and be part of.
➡️ Sustainability at its core: The building was, and most likely still is, one of the most advanced towers in Singapore. I'm happy to have contributed to securing a Green Building Merit Award for the APAC region from the Hong Kong Green Building Council.
➡️ Art: Given its high visibility in Singapore's CBD, the team collaborated with renowned artists Anish Kapoor, Jaume Plensa, and Jane Cowie to integrate exceptional public art. This was fun!
While I've been back to Singapore many times since, a trip to Raffles Place is always part of my agenda. Every visit, I stroll around and discover something new.
