Churchability Event

How do we unlock the societal and spatial potential of Germany's church buildings?

Germany's churches hold underutilised real estate portfolios in the country. Important infrastructure for local communities, and a huge, largely untapped opportunity for all of us.

This deserves a proper conversation. And now it's happening.

rvda - BUILDING. IDENTITIES, a collective founded by Helmut Ramsauer and Maximilian von der Ahé, LL.M., specialised in "Place to Be" asset transformation, is organising "churchability".

The event brings together church organisations, real estate professionals, politics, and civic initiatives around one question:

How do we unlock the societal and spatial potential of Germany's church buildings?

Details on the event:
- October 15, 2026 | 10:00 – 17:00
- Kunstraum Heilig Geist, UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein, Essen
- Panels. Marketplace. Workshops.
- Registration via link in the comments

The venue is special and a great example of what’s possible: a former church by Pritzker Prize laureate Gottfried Böhm, now a contemporary art space. Adaptive reuse already in practice.

As a network partner of rvda alongside Jochen Schenk, I'm glad to support this, and genuinely excited to see who shows up for this conversation.

Who do you think should be in the room? And what topics need to be on the agenda?
